Orbit Industries, Inc. is excited to announce the opening of another subsidiary facility, OrbitNDT-DNK in Dunkirk, New York. This branch became operational on January 24th, 2017 within the facility of our customer and partner, Dunkirk Specialty Steel (DSS), and will ultimately operate as an independent laboratory at this location. (LINK) The expansion was fueled by the long standing business relationship between Dunkirk and Orbit and is designed to meet the growing needs of DSS for Ultrasonic (UT) bar stock inspection.
Dunkirk Specialty Steel is a division of Universal Stainless, headquartered in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. They are one of four Universal facilities, with other branches located throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. Universal produces semi-finished and finished steel bar and plate products. Once sold, their products undergo further processing for use in the Aerospace, Oil and Gas, and various other industries. Dunkirk produces finished rod and bar products which are sold to service centers and original equipment manufacturers.
Orbit has been ultrasonically inspecting material for DSS since November of 2005. Since that time, Orbit has worked closely with Dunkirk personnel to support their growing need for NDT inspection services. Over the years this has included consulting work and on-site inspection personnel at Dunkirk’s facility. The opening of OrbitNDT-DNK allows for a more consistent on-site solution. Current inspection capabilities are UT bar stock inspection of .200” diameter through 2.50” diameter via a Tac Tic system. During 2017, OrbitNDT-DNK is working to gain Nadcap and other significant prime approvals. Development of additional immersion capabilities at this location is planned to meet the growing needs of Dunkirk and be in a position to offer additional inspection capacity to all of Orbit’s vast customer base. Regarding the new venture, Bob Aleksandrovic, Chief Operating Officer of Orbit Industries, Inc. states “Our commitment to assisting our customers solve critical supply chain issues and meet market demands is the driving force behind the Orbit subsidiary business model and OrbitNDT-DNK is another example of our commitment.” This expansion marks the 4th subsidiary location that has opened with in the Orbit family.
