Orbit Industries Chief Operating Officer was a guest of Middleburg Heights mayor, Gary W. Starr, in a business roundtable discussion with U.S. senator, Sherrod Brown, on March 31st, 2017 at the Middleburg Heights Community Center. Orbit was asked to attend because of their company longevity and continued partnership with Middleburg Heights, since 1974. Mayor Starr invited Orbit to participate in the bi-partisan roundtable discussion along with sixteen other established community business leaders. Southwest General Health Center, Sunnyside Automotive Group, and the Cuyahoga County Public Library System were just a few of the organizations in attendance.
The event was the first roundtable discussion in Middleburg Heights. However, Senator Brown has held over 300 other similar roundtable functions since 2007, visiting with 88 counties in Ohio. These discussions focus on ways to re-build the economy by working together with business owners, families, students, and educators. The input he has received has been valuable in influencing legislation at the federal level.
Bob Aleksandrovic, presented the challenges that Orbit faces as a small business in Ohio, such as tax related concerns, the Affordable Care Act, and finding qualified personnel. Those topics seemed to be the major theme discussed by all attending business members. Senator Brown was very engaged and shared that dozen of policies changes have been previously enacted through these roundtable discussions over the past decade that he has been in office. Regarding attending the event, Bob stated “This was a unique opportunity that Mayor Starr provided to us. I found the one-on-one time in the roundtable setting to be extremely valuable and beneficial not only for Orbit, but all the companies represented. Conveying our major challenges directly to the Senator was great and Orbit cannot thank Mayor Starr enough for this opportunity.” Due to the positive turnout, Starr plans to hold the roundtable series annually.
